Ariella H. Melendez (b. 2004, US) is a contemporary artist born in the Bronx, New York, and currently resides and works in Sarasota, Florida.
Melendez's practice navigates the interrelation between nature and human experience, examining how a sense of place emerges through representation and suggestion. Her current works are rooted in recurring motifs of natural and figurative silhouettes that merge environmental and human narratives.
By reengaging with the natural world as subject and metaphor, Melendez explores how environmental awareness offers a counterbalance and remedy to the detachment fostered by contemporary distractions.
Drawing inspiration from historical approaches to art-making, she works to evoke contexts from a time before the digital monotony of the present. Her practice seeks to reassert the human experience as inseparable from the rhythms and realities of the natural world.
Melendez is now based in Sarasota, Florida, where she is finishing her BFA at Ringling College of Art & Design.
